What I would also worry about these products is contamination of various toxins like lead and other heavy metal. You just don't know how these products are made. I certainly wouldn't take a chance in such inferior product with our children. And like KimA said, a lot of these diapers have very thin PUL. New PUL shouldn't leak through even if you have a heavy wetter.

Re: Tell me about Alva pockets.

Thinking more about this I feel really disillusioned about my Diaper Rite covers. Call me naive, its ok I know I am when it comes to this stuff. But I really thought it was their own cover and design. I remember when they came out with them it was like a "testing" thing and they had limited colors etc... it seemed to me like it was their own cover.

I have never knowingly bought a "china cheapie". And if I choose to buy one I want to know that is what I am buying. I just checked out the Alva website and it looks like yes the DR covers are the exact same. I feel a bit sad about it. I don't have anything against the cheap china diapers, (was contemplating buying some to round out my stash) I just want to know when I am purchasing one.

eta: it looks like the snap configuration is different on DRs so maybe they are not?

This happens. I bought a diaper based on a facebook group I am on. When it came it looked completely different than the picture from the advertisement. Pretty sure it is a Babyland rebranded diaper. Honestly, I do like the diaper but I don't support China cheapies. I have owned a few, Alva aplix (hated them, they snagged my other diapers and smelled like chemicals ~ eww) and a JC trade that I couldn't de-NIP.

I just don't feel I can support China Cheapies because
1) I have no idea what chemicals are on them (stinky chemically alvas)
2) I don't know how their employees are treated
3) it hurts our economy in so many ways

I will buy Chinese made diapers but I have to know the company isn't shady. I prefer American made though.

These are just my views. Feel free to do as you choose (in general you)

I wasn't going to comment in this thread, but I did want to say something, and please comment if anyone disagrees here. Regardless of whether a diaper is "alva rebranded"... I guess I look at "Alva" as more of a type of diaper. Therefore, there are tons of brands out there, while they may not come from the Alva factory, they are just another cheap diaper coming from another China factory, similar to Alva.

I am not talking about some of the big brands that are made in china, that's different, they are of great quaility, the owners have come on here and talked about visiting the factory etc.

ETA: Retailers get emails at least weekly from Chinese diaper maker saying
"we can make your own brand of diapers cheap." It's not even tempting for me. Why would I do this, when if someone wants china cheapies, they can get them cheaper though co-ops or directly from alvababy.com? I mean, we sell Kawaii's and to be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Do they provide the compliance certificates? These diapers are safe right? I couldn't get over how chemically the Alvas I had smelled. That is a huge part of my issues with them. Plus I gag when I see the markup on some of them ($30 for a rebranded Alva ). I guess it is better I don't know what y'all pay wholesale for BG, RaRs, FB etc.

I would have no clue about the safety, I just know the quality similar.

The emails we get... I used to scan through some of them, but now I just delete them.

The margin itself on diapers (like the brands mentioned) isn't bad, it's the shipping makes the margin slim.

I know you don't make much selling BG, FB, RaR those types. However when somebody can get solid Alvas for $2.50 in a co-op and those same diapers are sold by some for $30 as "their" diapers made just for them in a factory in China. That frosts my cookies. Yup, a label with "xyz" is sewn on it. Technically it is made just for them but the label is different & 15 other places sell the exact same thing as "their" diapers.

By the way, I admire that you haven't been swayed to sell them also.

Re: Tell me about Alva pockets.

While I suspect that nobody from Diaper Safari or Diaper Junction coming to say, no, these aren't "rebranded Alvas" is an answer in and of itself, I'd like to point out that the author of the blog post doesn't actually have any proof that her list are all rebranded Alvas. Somebody asked her in the comments, and she said, "Just take a look at the diapers. They are exactly the same. That's how I know." So I wouldn't go forwarding this list around as a definitive thing. I'm sure some or all of them are custom orders from Alva, but I don't want to see anyone's business affected by this being passed around as proof that their diapers are nothing more than Alvas with another label sewn on.

I don't have a problem with a retailer custom ordering from Alva. I already knew my diapers (Diaper Rite) were made in China. I preferred FuzziBunz when they were made in China. If the quality, compliance, and safety are there, I don't have a problem with businesses making economical choices that net them a profit. It looks to me like the DR snaps are positioned differently than the Alva snaps. I figure that by buying from Diaper Junction, I am paying more to make sure they comply with US laws, as well as more quality assurance (I assume). They are also located in my state so I feel good about patronizing them. I also like their most recent inserts which are as thick as FB or CB inserts (the original DR inserts where too thin for my liking). I also appreciate that when they got a bum batch of diapers, DJ identified them and sold them as seconds. I thought it was embarrassing that Diaper Safari didn't know their own diapers were suedecloth instead of microfleece - as a result I don't have total faith in their quality control, and I also balk at their higher price tag versus the DR pockets.

As a result of this thread I have ordered some Alvas to compare them to my DRs. I'll update when I get them and see if they look the same to me.
