margarine or butter

We use butter. Sometimes we use coconut oil where butter might be used. I put coconut oil in our oatmeal, on bagels and cook our pancakes in it.

But we would never use margarine.

This. Exactly.

However, YDS is allergic to dairy, so we must use Earth Balance (soy free version whenever possible ). Still better than true margarine, it contains better things like coconut oil and the corn in it is non-gmo. It's vegan, so it's truly dairy free, unlike most margarines. Bonus: it doesn't taste plastic-y or coat your mouth like margarine does (we visited BIL and all they had was margarine... I was never more thankful for the dairy allergy! We *had* to go buy EB, "for JJ" )

I'd still take butter over EB though

I'm a butter fan too, but this argument drives me bonkers. First, its internet lore and totally not true. Second, even if it were remotely true, a single molecule makes a huge difference. Water is h2o; hydrogen peroxide is h2o2. One molecule can turn water into something unsafe to drink, so should we stop drinking water?

Butter! We do keep a tub of Earth Balance spread in the fridge for spreading on toast.
