Baby Poop Question
My husband has never taken care of a child or changed a diaper. We're expecting #1 in August and he's been talking/complaining a LOT about "nasty baby poop" and it possibly getting on him somehow.
I told him today that I was under the impression that EBF baby poops are no where near as nasty or germ ridden as adult poops, or even toddler poops if they're eating regular foods. I told him I wasn't sure though and I'd check into it. Was I right? If so, do you know how "clean" they are compared to normal poops?

Re: Baby Poop Question
EBF baby poop looks like dijon mustard and hardly smells at all. The first few will be black for meiconium, but once that clears, they're really mild. Mommy's body does most of the work in digesting stuff, so what baby's little body has to do it minimal.
Now older baby poop, once they start solids - that stuff can be pretty nasty. Formula poop can be interesting too, but EBF poop is no big deal at all.

I don't know about cleanliness but it is not nearly as gross. It hardly smells and it doesn't even look like poop. It's yellow.

Re: Baby Poop Question
My DD was exclusively BF and her poop was slightly sweet smelling and it definitely looked like dijon mustard.
I've smelled formula baby poo though and it's AWFUL.

Toddler poop is awful. Smelly and can range from liquid to completely solid.
Yes you will get it on you and if you have kids like my three they will play in it , getting it everywhere. You will also get peed on and vomited on alot. Welcome to parenthood. Kiwi mum of 4 including Benjamin born still at 19 weeks on Jan 17th 2013.

EBF poop is very, very tame.
My DH was one of those "eww, bodily fluids!" kind of guys before we had kids. After dealing with the things that come along with a baby, he got over that quickly. When DS1 was a couple of weeks old, I was sitting cross legged on the couch nursing him. He suddenly had a ridiculously huge poop that shot out the leg opening of his diaper, all over my leg, on the couch, and on his bouncy seat which was on the floor in front of me. DH had to come help, because I would have made an even bigger mess if I'd just stood up right then.

Re: Baby Poop Question
So you are just 13 wks along and he's already worried about "nasty" baby poop getting onto him? There are much bigger messes he'll have to deal with, first time handling baby or not. Potty training/diarrhoea for example. Nowhere near mustardy baby poop.
I hope Im not reading too much into this, but you seem like you are trying to get him to warm up to the idea of a baby and its byproducts.

He is screwed. There is no such thing as "clean" poop. He needs to just deal.

It does have a sweet smell, as weird as that sounds...& formula poo is smelly. So if your breastfeeding he really shouldn't mind! |

![]() He will get poop and pee on him. While EBF poop is not that nasty compared to older baby/toddler poop, it is poop.
