We generally keep my DDs hair cropped short. I love short hair on girls! Your DD is adorable.

I love it and YES I let my own children pick their hair styles.

My sons are occasionally confused for girls. I suppose by your argument I should force them to keep their hair short so that never happens. It would certainly be easier to keep up their hair if I just shaved their heads though to be honest Kearnan is confused for a girl even with short hair. I would rather risk the very small chance that Kearnan will look back and say "why did you let me look like a girl?" when I can answer "Because you wanted to wear your hair that way and I was honoring your wishes." I have dealt with a child heartbroken because he didn't want his hair cut short, I've dealt with the screaming at the hair salon. I just don't think it is worth it nor do I truly believe either of my boys are going to be upset that I let them wear their hair the way they wanted to when they were children. I have spoken to far too many people who felt the opposite, resentful towards their parents for not letting them express themselves as children. As for clothes I'm pretty lenient about those too. My youngest frequently wears girls clothes because that is what he likes. I don't buy things with Angry Birds, Sponge Bob or really obnoxious sayings/curse words on them but other than that they are pretty much free to choose their own clothes. I don't think it has ever occurred to them to sag their pants but since we are a punk/nerd house it probably won't happen.

It looks great!
DD has gorgeous hair and it hasn't been cut in almost two years. But some days, when its tangled to high heck and she's squirming and fussing and not letting me comb it, I fantasize about giving her a very short bob. DS1 is almost 6 and frequently reminds us when he wants a haircut. If DD has an opinion at that age, we will give her the same consideration. It's just hair. It'll grow back.

Your daughter looks great with the cut! I am so impressed that she had the confidence to cut it short, since most adults couldn't even handle it. Way to go!

Re: Five days ago my daughter requested a hair cut... *before pic added
She looks cute, but a little older. I like longer hair on girls (but not too long that it's a pain to care for) so I would encourage my daughter to keep her hair long, but I think if she really wanted to cut it then I'd let her. My mom used to keep my hair chin length and now she looks at the photos of me and wonders why she used to cut it. it was probably easier to take care of. I think my husband would have more of a problem with my daughter having short hair. He prefers long hair on women too. But he'd be fine with long hair on boys, he went through a stage like that in high school.

Re: Five days ago my daughter requested a hair cut... *before pic added
Cute
Not sure if I'd let my daughter do that though. My mother was the type to let the boys do whatever they want with their hair, but she tried to keep ours long. We never had a professional haircut until we were over 18 years old (couldn't afford it) so she always decided. We could tell her if we wanted it short, but I was always too afraid to go shorter than shoulder length. She didn't force us to do anything, but she was sad anytime we wanted our hair shorter. The boys... oh my goodness... my brother to this day has long hair past his shoulders. It looks ridiculous. DH and I both agree that it won't be allowed in our home. My oldest boy had his first (very positive experience) haircut right before 12 months old. I've continued to do everything in my power to keep haircuts a positive experience. It's not a complete buzz cut, it is left a bit longer on top. My 9 month old will likely need a trim at 12 months too because his hair (although very wispy and light) is covering the tips of his ears and his bangs are going too far down his forehead, so a very light trim will be needed. I'd allow short hair on a girl - to hte shoulders or slightly above that, but probably never a pixie (albeit your daughter looks adorable adn her hair looks so easy to care for now!)

Also, side question: do you have dress codes with your kids? Like "no boxers showing" "no miniskirts", etc...
