Re: I want my newborn to have some personality.
awww he is so cute and I agree that smiles are just around the corner, usually 5-8 weeks with my kids. It is such a rewarding experience to have them smile at you and feel like they really recognize your face and not just your boobs

Re: I want my newborn to have some personality.
My daughter was staring at me from birth. I have a picture of her. My mom thought it was very strange the way she was looking at everyone and trying to figure out what just happened
She smiled pretty early too and was trying to talk at 4 weeks. She's still very sociable, a real clown. She's my first so I just thought it was all normal, now I won't worry if this next one isn't like her. He's already way more active.I'm sure you'll be getting the looks and smiles soon.

Re: I want my newborn to have some personality.
My daughter was staring at me from birth also. But, she was also extremely attached to me. She didn't just go to anybody without being visibly stressed.
I think it sounds as if he's more interested in everything around him.

Re: I want my newborn to have some personality.
My son was like that. He took the longest to smile. I think he was around 7 weeks when he finally did. He also wasn't as focused on looking at people as my girls. He just wanted to nurse and grab at things.

Re: I want my newborn to have some personality.
4-6 weeks they usually wake-up more and smile. It seems like it happens overnight. Around 6-8 weeks they get to be a lot more fun

Re: I want my newborn to have some personality.
So, I've been smiling at him when he's in the quiet alert phase, and yesterday, at four weeks old, he was staring right at me, wide awake, and gave me a brief but very real smile.
If he follows in his sister's footsteps at all, I'll be waiting over a week for the next one, but yay.
