How spicy is red curry paste?

I don't like spicy food - I'm a mild salsa person, medium sometimes but I bet those should've been labeled mild...Last curry dish I made I could not eat due to spice.
One of the meals on my emeals menu calls for 1/4 c red curry paste in a crockpot meal. I'm trying to branch out....but don't want to be wasteful. It is for 1 1/2lb chicken and has 32oz of broth plus other things.
Spicy or just flavor?

Thai curry paste? It's pretty spicy - you probably wouldn't like it. It is usually used a few tablespoons at a time, and sold in small jars or cans, so 1/4 C would be a lot, but I guess that is a pretty large recipe. Something like coconut milk would cut the heat level a bit, and you could always use less of the curry paste.

It's as spicy as you'd like it to be. Start off with a small amount and then add more til u like the taste.

Hmmm, the Thai Kitchen red curry paste I get at Meijer is not spicy at all. I use about 1.5 Tbsp for 4 serving dish and my kids can eat it. It does contain coconut milk in the recipe so that might be why it isn't so spicy.

You could probably halve it and be totally safe.

I would taste as others have suggested b/c it depends on the red curry paste. Yes the stuff that you can buy at any standard grocery store is not very hot usually but the stuff that you get at your local Asian market can be super hot.
