Thrifty diaper detergent

I just received my GMD flats. The instruction printout it came with discourages the use of washing soda and recommends minimizing the use of borax.

I've been using a simple homemade detergent for years now (on our regular laundry) that contains fels-naptha, borax, and washing soda. So.... I'm assuming it wouldn't be good to use this detergent.

My goal here is to go about our cloth diapering routine as cheaply as possible. Would Charlie's Soap be a good choice in this situation? I'll be hand washing all our dipes, if that makes any difference.

ETA: Oh BTW... I have some unused bottles of Dr. Bronner's liquid soap. Can that be used somehow for washing dipes?

Re: Thrifty diaper detergent

Honestly, for just cotton I don't see why it would cause a problem.
