what seat for average 6 year old, any w/o tether?

I'm trying to plan ahead and figure out of there is any way to make our current car work for longer. We have a mazda cx9 that we bought because it had 3 rows, however there is no latch or top tether in the third row that I wasn't smart enough to realize when we bought it.

I've figured out some arrangements to fit 3 across the middle seat but they only work when at least one is rf and it's still quite tight, to much to buckle a booster. I have my oldest in a ff radian at the moment but when she outgrows that (hopefully not until around 6) are there good boosters that don't require the top tether so she could move to the 3rd row?

Belt-positioning boosters never require a top tether, in fact most of them don't even have the option to use a top tether. A developmentally typical 6 year old is safe in a belt-positioning booster. So basically, you have your pick of any belt-positioning booster on the market that fits your daughter well and does a good job of positioning the adult seatbelt on her.

Yup! I have all my older children in belt positioning boosters due to height and they work wonderfully! They are 6, 9, and 10. When they are older all they really need is that extra height boost so the belt fits right. My dd the 6 year old began using hers right around when she turned 6.
