1st grade help

I'm back with more questions! sorry to be a pain. Could you recommend 1st grade curriculums? I've vaguely looked at abeka and sonlight but not sure. Also are there any books for handwriting?

This is what we did for first grade this year with DD:

Language Arts: Explode the Code 3-5, read alouds with oral narration (eg, I read Charlotte's Web, she gave an oral summary that I wrote down after each chapter), she read books to me at grade level, First Language Lessons 1 (I don't really like this, but she does), handwriting practice on our own

Math: Math-U-See Alpha

Social Studies: Story of the World 2 with Activity Guide

Science: We did lots of different things for this, Magic School Bus, Shining Dawn Books NaturExplorers books, subjects of interest from the library, Science videos with written summary of what we learned...you get the idea.

At co-op, she also did a weekly geography class, animal science class, and gym class.

DS is in first grade and this year we do:

All About Reading Level 2

First Language Lessons for the well trained mind - level 1

Saxon Math 1 but I'm kind of wishing we'd done Math U See

Story of the World and Activity Guide

Zaner Bloser handwriting for grade 1

And science I find free lap books to download from homeschoolshare.com and we study an animal for a week or two. We also sometimes watch a magic school bus episode and do actives to compliment that topic.

One day a week we go to Classical Conversations and so each week we work on our memory work for our class.

we do this pretty much, except I use Mammoth Math (LOVE!). For handwriting, I just made him practice Bible Verses. For Reading/Phonics I use Rod & Staff. For Science, we just use free stuff or do random experiments or reinforce whatever we are doing at CC. We also did Language Lessons, which I love.

Really, for first grade, you just need the basics....reading/phonics, math, writing. You can fill in the rest w/library books, websites, netflix, etc.
