Wish us luck! DD has never eaten coconut. She has had contact reactions and a positive skin test. Her last RAST was below detectable levels so we are doing the challenge. She was scared- because of the peanut training and the seriousness of that allergy- she didn't want to do it. She is scared that she'll have to use her epi and go to the hospital. We bribed her with all the stuff she might get to use if it goes well- bubble bath, glittery lip gloss, smelly kids shampoos and conditioners. And then there is this http://spoonful.com/recipes/smiling-snowman-cake . She is rather excited about decorating her cake. Of she fails then we'll make it without the coconut, I just haven't told her that yet.

But she had the unsweetened shreds and milk, they did not taste great. She decided she didn't like coconut. We're going to try some Silk coconut milk and see if she likes that better. Then maybe we can get away from so much soy milk. She did like it on her cake but I doubt she could taste it in the frosting. At least we can use what ever soap and shampoo we want now.

Good luck! I hope it goes well. My dd has a coconut allergy as well. It's gotten much better (she used to have to avoid all products with sodium lauryl sulfate, now she doesn't), but her challenge results were ambiguous so we're still avoiding.

We limit sls now to those things that are hard to get without it (or another derived ingred). Last year we had to avoid all too- what fun that was, but her eczema all but disappeared. Now she uses regular toothpaste and regular shampoo once a week. Soap is still Kiss My Face Olive oil bar and lotion is home made. She doesn't get to use any lip glosses or bubble bath. She is really looking forward to that. So hope she passes.
