I can't believe anyone would think he has a right to brazenly blast his music, knowing it is disturbing, and offending, others.

Sorry, our rights end where they infringe on those of others. Even if there is no specific law against noise pollution, he definitely could be charged with "disturbing the peace". Honestly, a trucker blasting gangsta rap? I would've called the cops rather than approach him. And blast "Barney" or whatever on my own radio to drown his out.

It is a dangerous society that values individual rights (read indulgences) over respect, compassion, and consideration for the rights of others.

We have learned to always have something in the CD/tape slots and be ready to talk with the kids and distract them until we can get it blaring. Luckily, my kids are not necessarily the most observant children out there...

We moved from quiet little towns to a "city" Well, it is a city, but not like a HUGE city. But city-ish with all it's people and graffiti and such. I hate it.

All that to say, I get you...and I am so sorry AND, there is no way I would have gotten out. If anyone gets out to talk to a trucker, it is my husband.

In our area, there are noise ordinances that prohibit music in vehicles from being above a certain level. I know this, as I was issued a few citations as a teenager.

I agree with you, although I would not have said anything. I am not quite that brave.

I have never had anyone refuse to turn down music when I asked. I would have been seething and my hot headed self would have challenged his jerkiness.

I agree with others- his rights end when he invades yours. I would have called the police (after having dh confront him first) or I would have gotten out of the ferry line even and come back for the next ride (assuming this wasn't the last ferry of the day). I'd rather make impromptu McDonald's stop than listen to that junk.

But if nothing else, I don't think it would result in such hostility.

And really? Call the cops? I wouldn't bother the cops with something that, really, is very trivial.
