Re: What is considered a larger family!?
We just had our 4th and we've been getting a lot of the "big family" comments
![]() Personally, I don't think 4 kids is a "large family" but I guess it is more than the national average.

Re: What is considered a larger family!?
I've always thought that four or more was big enough to start being called a large family. Both my and my hubby's parents had three and so do a lot of other people I know. Once you start having four or five you see fewer families with the same amount of children as you on a daily basis.

Yeah.....welcolme to the people are gonna make stupid comments at you all the time club! I'm pregnant with my 6th and we haven't told many people, and not even my MIL because we just don't feel like hearing the comments. I have 5 girls,so you can only imagine the no. 1 comment...... I usually respond,(with a really straight face) I'm actually allergic to male fetuses) They just look at me like I'm nuts. Sometimes I have clever replies, sometimes I just smile, and sometimes I completely ignore them. Just depends on my mood. As people said.... 2 kids and a dog is sufficient now, the majority of people don't understand why "in this day and age" anyone would actually want the "financial and mental stress" of more. Priorities have changed so much. It use to be family, being a good mom and wife, and satisfied with having most of what you needed. Now it's giving those one or two kids everything you didn't have, that new car every 5 years, and paying for that 200 channel cable package.

Re: What is considered a larger family!?
Y'all need to come to my neck of the woods. Four kids is standard issue. 7, 8 or nine wouldn't even get you a second look.

Re: What is considered a larger family!?
Yep, seems like anything more than 3 gets you the looks, stares, and comments. My boyfriend has 3 young girls and then we just had twin boy (my first) and MAN so we get comments. The odd thing is, most of them come from his mother. "Well now you have FIVE!" "you already have", "now there are 7 of you!" Quite frankly, I get a little frustrated. I would imagine, if anyone would feel overwhelmed it would be me seeing how pre-BF it was just me. Then 3 girls, and now twin boys. So if I can handle it and dont think its a big deal, I really dont need the peanut gallery telling me that it is.

We have twin 4 1/2 year old boys, an 8 month old boy and are now pregnant with our second set of twins. So we are going from 3 to 5... I am sure that we are going to hear all kinds of comments. I just wish it didn't bother me so much! We didn't initially intend to have a "large" family but had fertility issues that lead us to Ivf. We did one cycle and got pregnant with our twins and were left with 6 frozen embryos. We used 2 for a frozen cycle and got pregnant with our now 8 month old. Another 2 used for a frozen cycle in December and now we are pregnant with our second set of twins. Aren't people just going to flip out if our last 2 embryos take???

Re: What is considered a larger family!?
We have four and it does not seem like a lot to me (or most of the other families in our homeschool group) so it often surprises me when other people I come across act like I must be completely overwhelmed...or crazy.
![]() 10+ seems like a lot to me, though I will admit to thinking the laundry of any family with 6+ must be overwhelming. I have laundry issues.

It seems people think anything more than what they have is a large family lol ive noticed that note that we have four the question has changed from, "are you going to have more?" To "are you guys done?"
