Re: How the heck to eat!?

Worse case you could just feed the kids chickfila and you could wait and eat at home.....that would be $10 vs $25

But otherwise I'd probably just pack something. Even if it is just PBJ, if you give them enough side items they will be plenty full.

And, worse case, if they eat at Chik-Fil-A once a week, it's not going to kill them!

Re: How the heck to eat!?

Personally I'd get sick of cold sandwiches and cold food. I would heat up something (leftovers, mac & cheese, something like that) and put in in a thermos type container. We use these but there are many others like them http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/re...dp/B004K6LMU2. Keeps the food nice warm. Bring some forks and napkins and water bottles. It could be eaten in the car or while waiting at the practice (for everyone besides the one playing hockey).

ETA: Those are also good for keeping cold food cold such as yogurt or salad.

Re: How the heck to eat!?

We deal with the same thing. DD1 has volleyball on Thursday evenings. We leave at 5 and get home about 8:30. I pack a full meal. I use individual thermoses and easy lunchbox containers. The thermos gets the hot item (Mac & cheese, spaghetti, Chili, etc.). The container has a large sandwich section and 2 smaller ones. Last week the big part had 2 mini bbq pork sandwiches and the week before it was a big salad. The small sections get nuts, cut up fruit, yogurt, etc. Each kid gets a water bottle. DD eats on the way and the kids eat outside the gym once we get there. Often I will bring a bag of cookies or crackers to munch on the way home as well.

Re: How the heck to eat!?

On those types of days my mom would just do the meals reversed. We'd have 'dinner' at lunch time and sandwiches for dinner.

I would pack something and take it. I don't like sandwiches, so I'd probably do salads to go, little pizzas, quesadillas, pasta, etc. We have ziploc containers like those easy lunch boxes. my kids love it when I make "lunchables". They get lunch meat, cheese, crackers, a yogurt, and a juice box. If you give them plenty of extras they'll be full.

If you go to chik-fil-a, you could buy the dollar sandwiches to eat at the rink along with chips, fruit and water from home. You'd save a ton of money.

Re: How the heck to eat!?

Do a snack before, like 1/2 sandwiches, and after have some veggies in bags to tide them over in the car ride home, and have a crock pot going at home for afterwards?

Re: How the heck to eat!?

Thanks y'all, I never thought about a thermos. Duh! Tomorrow is the first night, so I'm going to try putting a BBQ pulled pork meat into a set and make sandwiches when we leave with some carrots or celery.

And crockpot meals would work too, since they'd be able to immediately eat, shower, and bed.

Re: How the heck to eat!?

That is our Wednesdays - MIL takes DD1 to ballet right at dinner time, and I take DS and DD2 to the library for children's programs at the same time. I usually have something going in the crock pot (homemade chicken soup, chili, goulash etc), and then we eat dinner at 6, shower, and its bedtime at 7:30. My husband also works until 8pm the same night so sometimes, we will just do PBJ or turkey sandwiches with carrot sticks for a quick and easy dinner!
