Re: Best magnetic building toy?
HUGE Magnatiles fan here! We have a couple of the translucent 100-piece sets and they've been played with more than any other toy for over 2 years. They're great for big spread of ages, too. I can't recommend them highly enough!
If you have a Lakeshore Learning near you, sign up for their e-mail list. They send out 20% and BOGO 1/2 off coupons sometimes that are a great deal. If you order from them online you can still save a little, but the shipping is expensive. Also, if you have other high-end toy stores in your area, sign up on their mailing lists. We have 2 here locally that carry Magnatiles and they both send out 20% off coupons on their catalogs.

Re: Best magnetic building toy?
Thank you mamas! I will check and see if we have any stores in the area where I can get a deal. I've also been wanting a light table for the kids, those tiles would be awesome with one, and it looks like the magformers would be as well

Re: Best magnetic building toy?
Dd has played with our magna-tiles nearly daily for the last 5 years. Thousands of hours and it never gets old!

Re: Best magnetic building toy?
I can't afford any of them right now. But, I was in the teaching store buying some other things. There was a huge round table of different magnetic toys. There was a large group of unattended kids playing together. They all seemed to gravitate towards the clear/colored magformers. They pretty much left the solid colored builders alone. I thought that was interesting.
The wheels were a hit too, which surprised me. The magnatiles went mostly untouched. There was also a set of large tube and ball magnetic toys (for younger kids I assumed) that were all shoved to the middle, and weren't being used at all.

Re: Best magnetic building toy?
We have Magformers without wheels and Tegu with wheels. The Magformers are played with constantly, Tegu is almost untouched!

Re: Best magnetic building toy?
We have Magnatiles and Magformers, and the Magnatiles are definitely the favorite, although dd likes to combine both sets together. There's a Tegu set at grandma's which has never much appealed to any of the grandkids, for some reason.
