Re: Pics please: longies "outfits" & some questions

We got tons of hand-me-downs from SIL, both clothing and wool. B/c of differences in sizes, most of the longies we were given never fit DD, but she wore soakers over fitteds under dresses & pants. The vast majority of what we got from SIL was pretty high-quality interlock, only one or two knit items. Dresses were easy, & we added legwarmers in colder months. Some brands of pants are more generous than others, but DD wore a lot of leggings & knit pants (b/c of the stretch) or boys' jeans (b/c they're more generous in the rise & hip circumference). We were happy to get DD into day care with a provider who was happy to CD, but wool was pushing it, so we only did wool in the evenings and on weekends. That made it not a great choice for us to invest a ton into outfits and such...the whole time DD was in diapers, I only had 2pr made for her. The rest of the time, we made do with the soakers, a few upcycled pieces, and a few items I got FSOT. We used close-fitting longies, either upcycled or like Babyology style, under skirts & dresses & that worked great. My DD was a SUPER heavy wetter. Even with good diapers (mostly GMs, MEOS, Sandys, KiwiPie, etc.) she frequently soaked through diaper & wool in under 2 hours. TBH, going through woolies that frequently, I couldn't be bothered to worry about matching the top, which is part of why we just did soakers under regular clothes & called it a day. Towards the end of DD's time in diapers, I did learn to crochet, so that gave me some additional options, but I tried to stick with colors that she wore a lot of, or that had a good variety of colors that would match multiple things. And my experience was that soakers fit DD for much longer than longies did. Oh, and when we wanted matching outfits, we typically bought solid colored tees & did iron-ons. newborn, in a Blueberry cover ![]() got this outfit as a gift ![]() same shirt, w/ soaker & leggies about 4 mos later: ![]() babydoll top/dress: ![]() upcycled: ![]() crankies ![]() I'm 99% sure there was a wool soaker under this shirt: ![]() One of the few custom knits we bought, w/ a shirt we did an iron-on for: ![]() Custom crochet w/ a store-bought top: ![]() Hand-me-downs ![]() There was wool under there ![]() Later that day, after she peed through the first cover & pants ![]() ![]() And a pair I made later on ![]() I also had a friend who lived in a cold area & asked me to make longies for all 3 of her kids, I think mostly to sleep in, even though they never CDed. |

Re: Pics please: longies "outfits" & some questions
Alright ladies, you convinced me. I have a teal/brown striped longie otw and I have a few shirts coming form links to go with it. I also bought a red soaker for nights. I'm crossing my fingers that this works and we love it. You very possibly have a new convert joining the ranks.
