6 millionth washing/ bleach question
Sorry, I tried google but I'm afraid I'm pretty laundry dumb.
I have a maytag bravos X - top loader but high efficiency. I need to sanitize some prefolds and thirsties duo covers I got from Craigslist. I am scared of bleach ![]() In about oh, 6 months I'll need to know how to wash them regularly ( because you don't use bleach every time right?) We do have hard water but we have a softener system, so I'm assuming my water is balanced and I don't have to treat the laundry like its hard water? Can someone spell this out to me like I'm 6?

Re: 6 millionth washing/ bleach question
How do you use it? Does any bleach work? Doesn't it eat at the fibers?

Re: 6 millionth washing/ bleach question
I use bleach every other time. Here's my routine got an old top loader.
- Short cold wash cold rinse. I add the bleach to this load. Add the bleach, fill the washer then add the diapers. - long hot wash cold rinse. Add detergent. - extra cold rinse. Washing diapers doesn't have to be complicated. Just make sure you dilute the bleach in the water before adding the diapers. |

Re: 6 millionth washing/ bleach question
Don't fear the bleach. You're going to need it at some point or another in your CDing journey.
I think most wash routines involve a cold rinse, then a hot wash on whichever cycle is the longest on your machine. Those long cycles usually have extra washing and rinsing built in. And don't skimp on the soap. You have soft water, so you might not need as much as someone with hard water, but keep in mind that you are cleaning pee & poop and less is NOT more. Most mainstream detergents will get the job done effectively. Like many, I use Tide. With somewhat hard water, I fill the entire scoop to the top.

Re: 6 millionth washing/ bleach question
I use bleach every time on everything. I have had our diapers in use for 2.5 years, they were all purchased used, and they are still going strong!

Re: 6 millionth washing/ bleach question
You can use bleach everytime but you don't have to. I use oxygen bleach occasionally, it's a little less harsh.
If I got used diapers I would 1oz of oxy bleach in a warm rinse Maybe 1oz of oxy bleach in a whites/hot/long wash with detergent Warm rinse Normal wash: Warm Rinse whites/hot/long wash with detergent cold rinse If I occasionally feel I need to "strip": 1oz of oxy bleach in a warm rinse a whites/hot/long wash with detergent Warm rinse
