Aden + anais sewn for homemade ring sling?

I love the aden and anais muslin wraps, can you forsee any problems if i thoroughly stitched two together and made my own ring sling out of them? I've already bought my rings from 'ringsling.com' so i know they're quality.

I only want it for while my newborn is tiny and it's so hot out (due july!), so like newborn - 3 months, so i'm thinking it doesn't need to be super heavy duty/strong material. after that i'll use the heavier ring sling i bought.

Also, is it 'safe' to nurse a newborn in a ring sling? no suffocation worries?

Thanks!!!!

That fabric is not going to be safe or supportive enough. You can buy linen fabric at Joann's

Re: Aden + anais sewn for homemade ring sling?

hm, i was thinking stretch was good in a sling. is that not the case? i was also going to maybe use an interfacing where i sew the blanket around the ring sling ring for extra strength.

is linen the next lightest material?

I suggest you join this group on FB for help.
There are good fabrics and bad fabrics for carriers. It's totally possible to make your own but you'll want to make a safe one.

Re: Aden + anais sewn for homemade ring sling?

That's not a strong enough fabric for a ring sling. You need something that can bear weight safely, the Aden and Anais fabrics are great for swaddling but neither the weave nor the fibers are not strong enough for this.

Sleeping baby has a FAQ on selecting fabric for an RS:
http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/fabric.html

For hot weather, your best choice for a single layer sling is medium-weight linen. It's breathable and strong and softens and improves with washing and use (very important for messy newborns!) I've seen a lot of DIY RS mamas rec this source:
http://www.fabrics-store.com/first.p...nu=f&article=1

If you haven't looked at the SBP site, do so. She has great instructions for using a RS (including tips for nursing in one ---- RS are fabulous for nursing!) and tutorials for sewing slings.

Good luck!
