Best elastic for homemade diapers?
I hope this is the right place for this question...
I recently bought some homemade newborn diapers made from prefolds, with just elastic and a knit fabric on the outside added. They look pretty much like the GMD workhorse diapers. This is my first time buying this kind of diaper, and I have to say the simplicity of it appeals to me. Now, I cannot sew and do not own a sewing machine, but I showed them to my MIL, who is a wonder with any and all kinds of sewing. As I thought she might, she offered to make me some more of the same, and it appears that I am about to enter the world of diaper-making I want to supply her with the materials, and while prefolds and fabric are easy, I am not sure about the elastic. I want them to be good quality and stand up to lots of washing, of course, and what I am wondering is what is the best kind of elastic to buy? Will something from JoAnn's do, or do I need to purchase something online? Those of you with diaper-making experience, what brand(s) do you recommend?

Re: Best elastic for homemade diapers?
I have found the inexpensive elastic you find at walmart to be the most durable. I have tried many other elastics only to have them fail.

Re: Best elastic for homemade diapers?
The best, most reliable brand would be Stretch-rite (which Walmart used to carry, but mine doesn't anymore).

Also, does it matter whether it is braided or knit?

Re: Best elastic for homemade diapers?
3/8" polybraid is what you're looking for.

Re: Best elastic for homemade diapers?
I want to note that I tried a different elastic(3/8" swimwear elastic from Joanns) and not 6 months later the diapers have lost ALL their stretch, completely useless. It was on clearance, I should have known.
