I wish alcohol didn't transfer to breastmilk!

We are pretty well snowed in with no end to the snow in sight. I'm home with my 3 year old DS and 9 week old DD (and big dog who is excited about all the snow!). The three year old is being, well, THREE and the baby has been clingy and clusterfeeding, as well as not sleeping well (no long naps, just quick catnaps) for days now. I suspect a growth spurt, but I'm exhausted.

On top of that, DH just let me know that everyone is calling into work because of the snow, even though he lives farthest away and went in, so he will be working straight from open to close.

I know by the time he gets home at 10 or 11 tonight, I'll want nothing more than a hot bath and a cold beer but with Ivy eating so often and being so small, I'm going to have to skip it.

Anyone care to join me in an imaginary cocktail hour?

I would have a beer or a half of one. Well actually I would have a glass of wine, I hate beer.

Half a beer is okay and good for supply too. Pick a dark beer like Guinness and share with DH. Just stop before you feel buzzed.

Whether you drink alcohol while nursing is a personal decision. Me? I'd drink a glass of wine (or 3) and take a breather. You earned it!

If you're sober enough to parent you're sober enough to breastfeed. You can look it up on Kelly mom if you want more info, but having one drink won't affect your milk that much.

Alcohol doesn't transfer into your milk the same way it does into your blood.

Ill join you in the imaginary drink. My husband is drinking a beer right now. I'm newly pregnant so it was like three days ago that I was drinking. Still getting used to the idea of abstaining for a very long 9 months .

Is that still true if she's barely over ten pounds? I used that rule with my DS when we were at a wedding (champagne toast) but he was older and a bigger baby/faster gainer.

I did have a mimosa on Christmas this year but that was when she wasn't feeding all day and I had three hours between the drink and her nursing again.
