Re: Whats the oldest youve nursed?
ds1 seemed okay with it when we weaned, but then when his little brother was born he asked to nurse. i think he actually would have if i'd let him. trying to establish breastfeeding with a sleepy 36 weeker was hard enough that i didn't even consider it.

Re: Whats the oldest youve nursed?
My older two were almost 4 years of age. I can't remember anymore just how close to 4 they were though. My youngest is 20 months and nursing almost hourly during the day and every 2 hours during the night still. In the last 15 years since my husband and I have been married I have been either pregnant or nursing a total of 11 1/2 years. I did get a 3 1/2 year break in between my middle child weaning and getting pregnant with our youngest.

The longest I nursed was 11 months. I pumped for 18 months with DS3 though. He bit so I stop latching him. I am on 10 months so far with DS4. I hope to make it to 12 months at least. That is my goal. THen to 18 months.

Re: Whats the oldest youve nursed?
My oldest nursling was 4 years and 6 months old when I weaned her. The others nursed until 4 years and 3 months, and until just before his fourth birthday. The youngest two are still nursing.
I have been nursing nonstop (i.e. not a day has passed without my nursing at least once or twice) for the past 10.5 years. That's not pregnant or nursing, but just straight nursing. I was frequently pregnant and nursing, but I was at least nursing everyday for the past 10.5 years. A bunch of ladies over on the "Moms of Many or Multiples" forum beat my stats no problem. |

Re: Whats the oldest youve nursed?
So far, 27 months (dd6). Now, with my youngest dd (20 months), I can't imagine her ever weaning herself...she LOVES her "nursies".

Re: Whats the oldest youve nursed?
My oldest weaned at 6.5 years old, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. He truly self-weaned, and he didn't nurse one day longer (or less) than he needed to. DS2 nursed for 4 years and a few months, and that's just what he needed. DS3 is 17 months, and we'll see how long he nurses.
Elizabeth, I think I have you "beat!" |

I think 20 months was my longest.

Re: Whats the oldest youve nursed?
My older boy will be 5 and a half tomorrow and still nursing. I tandem nurse him and his almost 2 year old brother, so 5 and a half years of non-stop lactating. It's been challenging, especially in pregnancy, I am a skinny type and need very good nutrition otherwise my immunity goes very much down and I get sick very often. Otherwise, I love breastfeeding my children
My understanding is that the child should wean by himself whenever he is ready.
