Re: So how do I teach my baby how to take a pacifier?
If he'll suck on the pacifier some and then loses it, you can try pulling gently on it to get him to suck harder. That could help teach him to use the pacifier if he doesn't hate it. Good luck! We've tried about 5 different kinds for DS and he forcefully spits out all of them. Avent Soothies worked for a little while, but not anymore.

Re: So how do I teach my baby how to take a pacifier?
We got lucky and DD will take the soothie ones. SHe is my only one that will take a paci and it took some work getting her to take it. I just kept offering when I knew she was just wanting to suck and not needing nurishment.

Re: So how do I teach my baby how to take a pacifier?
The dollar store has bpa pacifiers for pretty inexpensive, 3 for $2!

Re: So how do I teach my baby how to take a pacifier?
I've had the same problem with both my kids being their paci when they were young but I couldn't get either to take one no matter which brand I tried or how.many times I offered it they just made a yuck face and spit it out right away.

Re: So how do I teach my baby how to take a pacifier?
He likes the one I picked out (a Soothie) well enough, but just doesn't have the mechanics to keep it in his mouth yet without me holding it there. But he willingly sucks on it and doesn't spit it out in disgust or anything, so that is good.

Re: So how do I teach my baby how to take a pacifier?
It took us 4 years to get DS1 off of it so im glad ds2 and ds3 refused
I think we spent a small fortune replacing those things. Stefan would take one early on but by 6 weeks he was done with it. Same with Tay. Had no interest but sucking on me.

Re: So how do I teach my baby how to take a pacifier?
This has worked for both my kids - after a nursing session while he/she is comfort nursing and is getting sleepy, just break the suction, and gently swap for the paci...
And yes, gently pulling on it will usually make baby suck harder =) |

you'll spend the next year continually replacing them, then the next 5 years finding them in the weirdest places
