House = money pit (please say I'm not alone!)

Anyone else's house start falling apart as soon as tax refunds hit the bank, or was it just me ?! First the dishwasher, now the hot water heater ... what next!

No one will reply as to not jinx themselves. LOL.

It's always something though. My house to-do list is miles long.

Our house is in a constant state of repair or projects as we try to fix this or that up.

Re: House = money pit (please say I'm not alone!)

Yes, we're still waiting on our check but it's been crazy here the last couple of weeks. We bought a lot of new appliances last year: washer, fridge, dishwasher, microwave. My microwave went out 2 weeks ago. It's not a cheapo either and we don't even use it every day so I don't what happened. My dishwasher wouldn't wash for 2 days, it would just click over to clean. Fortunately my husband was a plumber so he fixed whatever was wrong with the drain line that caused that problem. And my dryer has been making awful noises and the knob broke off. We only paid $50 for it years ago so I'm definitely getting a new one next week!

Ours has a cracked foundation....with our return we'll be getting the plans to repair it but that's about all it will cover I was just looking at our bedroom window and there's a 1 1/2 inch gap at the top of the window even though the bottom is closed. We have an 8 inch differential from one side of our house to the other and I'm always worried there's going to be a moderate quake (we live in California) and our house will break apart

I know the feeling...but at the same time it's my wife's childhood home so in a way we're trying the best keep updating it. The foundation alone is from late 1700's and rest of the house is built on the original beam so it's interesting to say the least in working around it. Everything pretty much needs to be updated. Electrical, heating, putting gutters in, siding needs to be replaced...etc etc.

Our federal return was deposited Saturday; I saw it in the account when we were at my parents for dinner. Two hours later we returned home and our furnace died. What had been earmarked for two out-of-state weddings and a bat mitzvah across the country paid for a new furnace with a Sunday installation surcharge (it was zero here over the weekend).

Re: House = money pit (please say I'm not alone!)

for everybody. We've had some inheritance money set aside for pretty significant reno, just waiting on a contractor we know to give us quotes later this month.

Tax return will pay off the car repairs I put on the credit card...I love my car, but it's really expensive to repair on the rare occasion that something goes wrong.
