Human Anatomy Explanations
When we go to bed, 5y old DS1 has been asking me to explain how the human body works. Each day is a different part. I make it as much understandable to him as possible, and fun with weird sounds. I try to draw comparisons to everyday objects while trying to explain; "The food we eat moves thro the intestines like how a caterpillar moves." (He is VERY interested in how water becomes pee and how food turns into poop. That's what he thinks anyway!)
But since English is not our primary language (while I 'think' in English if you KWIM) it is getting a little difficult to explain. We speak in Sankethi, an Indian dialect, and admittedly, I dont know the Sankethi words for a lot of the organs! And I would rather that he learn the English words of human organs! Do any mamas know of any good, interactive online sources for human anatomy geared towards small kids. Maybe home-schooling mamas have a fave? Oh, it needs to be free please.

No one? Is my 5y old the only curious one about his body's insides?

Re: Human Anatomy Explanations
Scatalogical talk is developmentally normal for 4-5 yr olds.
No ideas re references, but I loved the Invisible Woman & Man toys at that age. You could take them apart, see all the organs, then put them together again.

Re: Human Anatomy Explanations
Do you have an apple device? Harvard medical has designed a bunch of apps that my five year old LOVES.
This is the foot https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/foot...439338220?mt=8 You can find the rest from there... I think there are a dozen or so? ETA we also use good ole Greys Anatomy. My five year old loves it. Last edited by NotLad; 02-15-2013 at 08:21 AM. |
