Mason Jars?
Can you put Mason jars in the freezer? I have the white plastic lids to put on them. I want to put coffee in them. If you can what else can you freeze in them?

Yes, i have done it. If you are freezing a liquid be sure to leave a little room for it to expand so that it doesn't break the jar. Coffee should be just fine.

I put stock in them, but learn from my mistake and leave plenty of room. I had 17 cracked jars full of turkey stock earlier this year. It was pretty awful.

My DH did this with 5 jars (he is a scientist too!!!) and I wasn't happy. I have also stored sourdough starter in a little one. You can probably also do freezer jam and such if you wanted. I just don't have that kind of room in my freezer. I also use mason jars in my pantry A LOT.

Re: Mason Jars?
Ball recommends that you use wide mouth jars for freezing and allow at least 1 inch of headspace. You can also use the bumpy jelly jars in the freezer.

Re: Mason Jars?
Even if you give head space/use wide mouthed jars, they will tend to crack since glass is too brittle a material for freezing. Unless it is tempered, glass jars shouldnt be frozen.
