I am concerned about its breathability during southern summers. I don't want to go non waterproof either though. He's nakey but or the one gerber trainer I can find of his sisters at home; but, I want more protection while we're out.

You could try hybrid fitteds or those wind pro ones.

I live in Louisiana and we've never had a problem with the pul giving DD heat rashes or anything... Just thought I'd let you know that.

Muggy MS mom here (we moved a few months ago though). My son wore cloth for well over a year in humid/hot weather and never got a heat rash. We used pockets (mostly sunbaby) and stuffed them with cotton prefolds.

ETA: but *I* got heat rash often...in jeans and a tank top.

Go figure.
