So question...which blender do you use?
For flax seeds and spices, my go-to is a coffee grinder. Small, space-saving and works for me to make onion powder, garlic powder, flax meal, etc. without much fuss. AND the thing was $2 at a garage sale - seems most sales have 'em and not enough people want to grind their own coffee?? I know we sure don't! Spices and flax only!

For blender, I have a glass carafe KitchenAid but would also recommend a Breville. I can only dream of a Vitamix...

Hey, can I top the Vitamix and the Blendtec with a Thermomix? Super expensive (I didn't buy mine, it was a gift!) but really, any of those 3 will blend just about anything to a super smooth texture.

Does anyone have the "cheapest" version of Vitamix? What's your opinion on it? We saw it at Costco for a little under $400... and for those who like Blendtec better, I'm curious why?

We were looking at the Vitamixes at Costco (but still a bit unsure about taking the plunge and getting one) - is there anything you liked about the Ninja that you didn't like the Vitamix so much for? I had a Ninja for awhile and really liked it while it lasted (I just happened to have my baby on my back in a carrier, and he pulled the wire and it fell off the counter so the bowl broke. Maybe we'll see if we can replace the bowl, but for now a cheap blender and food processor are working for us.)

Re: Calling all smoothie makers

I don't have a Bledtec, but the sales guy at Costco was happy to tell me why I should have gotten it instead of the Vitamix:
Lower clearance fits under most cabinets (VM is very tall)
Only one container for wet or dry (though I do dry grinding in my normal VM just fine, it's not recommended)
No tamper needed (they say their pitcher moves ingredients onto the blades)
More horsepower (2 vs 3, but you're pureeing vegetables, not hauling cattle, so it's largely a marketing point)

I doubt the average person will be have a problem using either product. They're both more than adequate for a smoothie.

I have a ninja pulse system and love it but not for smoothies.

A couple weeks ago target had the kitchen aid blenders on sale for $80 so I bought one.

I'm in love. Seriously in love! It's amazing for smoothies.

Re: Calling all smoothie makers

Vitamix for sure. Does everything so much better then a regular store bought blender.
