BLW and dogs
How did you manage it? We are trying to keep our dogs away from the highchair during dinner, so DH calls them to the other side of the room to lay down and stay. It works for the most part, but last night Jebediah snuck over and got a carrot, the dogs' favorites!! Is it futile to try to keep them from eating DD's food off the floor? We just don't want begging dogs.

Re: BLW and dogs
When you figure it out LMK!
I have two boys 3 and 1 its impossible without locking the dogs upstairs. We factor it in to their food for the day. We have two goldens. It hasn't prompted begging though. They just do clean up.

I hadn't thought of factoring it into their food intake. Good call! I'm ok with clean up as long as they don't start begging, but DH is against it. Sure would make my life easier though.
From the phone.

Re: BLW and dogs
My dog is a beggar (my dads fault from when I lived at home) so I just let him go to town. He loves cleaning up after my baby.

I was never so glad in my life to have dogs who will eat anything
we were giving DD healthy food, and I had to spend way less in cleanup. Now at 2YI DD knows how to gently budge the dogs away from her chair if they are getting too pushy. I would enjoy the cleanup crew, mana!

Re: BLW and dogs
We let them clean everything up and I confess that I am so appreciative of their efforts as it's not my cup of tea to scrape blueberries off the floor.
We view it as treats, they do not really beg as much as stand there hopefully, it's non-aggressive so we let it go. I only feed cut grapes outside of the house though since dogs cannot have grapes. If a dog touches the high chair tray he is thrown outside, only to mournfully watch his brother get to clean up the baby's mess all by himself. That generally fixes an over-eager one for a week or so.

Re: BLW and dogs
Our skin kid hasn't arrived yet but my fur kids were trained from day one to either go to the other room or lay down while we are eating. When me and DH are done with dinner and get up to go wash our plates they are free to come in and eat whatever is on the floor or scraps we throw in their bowls.
I am hoping this routine will stay once the skin kid gets here.

Re: BLW and dogs
Our older dog used to try and eat off the high chair tray and then lick DD1's face "clean"...yuck, he quickly learned to lay down on the far side of the kitchen and clean up only the floor afterwards. Now that we have 2 dogs they don't even come to the kitchen when we eat, they scope it out after (not too much mess anymore now that the kids are older, unless we had rice - the dogs fav food!)

Re: BLW and dogs
Our dogs do clean up. I cjt back on their regular food. The only time I make them stay out is if wenhave grapes, which isnt very often.
I try to do nongrapes or raisnins since they can be hramful to dogs.
