Difference between infant and childrens Advil/Tylenol

Is there a difference between infant and childrens Advil and Tylenol? Costco sells childrens Advil in big bottles for $20, but you can only get infants in teeny tiny bottles for $6 a bottle. Lulu is 22lbs - meaning that by weight she can have childrens stuff (the back has dose instructions starting at 22lbs) but by age she should have the infants stuff. With the infants stuff she needs 2 full droppers worth (if I dose by weight) so a bottle barely lasts a week of teething!

Is there a difference, or can I use the childrens stuff proper dosed to her weight (within the printed guidelines) instead of by her age?

One is more concentrated than the other. I think the infants is stronger than the childrens. I thought they were phasing out infants because of people confusing the formulations and overdosing/underdosing.

I think the concentration per ML is the difference. Children's is more concentrated than infants.

Also, we were told by our pediatrician that you dose on weight or age, whichever is the LOWEST amount. So, my son is huge but only 16 months old, so we do the 12-24 month dose even though by weight he could get much more.

You are supposed to purchase the infant one until at least age 2.

Did you compare/check the concentration? They did get rid of the infants which was more concentrated.

Makes it confusing because they still have infants but I'm fairly certain the concentration is the same. Just a marketing thing I guess, plus you get the dropper w infants.

they always gave us childrens at the doc, even when ds was tiny. i think the infants is more concentrated, thats why you use the little dropper as opposed to the syringe/spoon/cup.

but ive heard they were phasing it out as well

Hmmm, ok I just checked tylenols ws, infants js 80mg/ml and children's is 160mg/5ml

So I was wrong, again I always check the concentration (since I clearly can't remember!)

I thought they were making them the same to get rid of the confusion

Re: Difference between infant and childrens Advil/Tylenol

As long as you are giving the correct mg dosage it doesn't matter at all. Advil is Advil. You could use Children't tylenol yourself as long as you took enough of it.

Make sure you are calculating the dosage correctly though! I dose by weight, not age because my girls are 2nd percentile and 90th so going by age isn't accurate.

The infants is super concentrated. It is very important to only use the included dropper.

Re: Difference between infant and childrens Advil/Tylenol

I brought this up last year at my DD's 1 yr WBV. Her dr. recommended using the children's kind, since DD was so big that it was tough to get her to swallow enough of the infants' stuff based on her weight.

Hmmm...we were told the opposite (obviously, based on what I said above ). I think the instructions on the package say to dose by weight, too, so I never tried using the dose recommended just by age. Wonder if it would have been enough? DD was like 30 lbs when she was 6 months old, so the age dosage for Advil was significantly less than the weight dosage.
