Difference between infant and childrens Advil/Tylenol

We have been told by our pediatrician to use children's and then dose based on weight.

I buy the cheaper toddler size for both kids and get the correct ml dosage of actual active ingredient from the nurse based on the kids' weight. She gave me a handy chart.

That doesn't sound right. The children's would require a bigger volume for the same dose as infants. The infants is super concentrated.

Children's acetaminophen contains 160mg per 5 Mls.

Infants acetaminophen contains the same 160 mg on only 1.6 Mls.

So in reality you would need a smaller volume dose for the same mg dose in infants versus children's. not the other way around.

You would have to give over 3 times the volume of the children's for the same dose as infants

I thought they (in the past year or so) re-did it so that infants is NOT super concentrated anymore, since it was leading to overdosing? We got a pamphlet at our first visit to the pediatrician about "new dosing amounts and concentrations."

I will have to look for it. I think I filed it.

No they always talk about it though. I have a bottle of both in my bathroom and the infants you only have to have 1.6 Mls for a 160mg dose. The same 160 mg dose requires 5 Mls in the children's, which is 3 times the volume for the same dose.

Now you are going to have me tearing through my files I'm curious to know exactly what it said. I remember a big chart with OLD CONCENTRATION on one side with dosage instructions if you had old bottles and then NEW CONCENTRATION on the other side with instructions. It's going to drive me nuts

Wow, thank you. She hasn't needed any meds since then so I never bought the children's Tylenol or checked into it. That would not work at all because there's no way I could get her to drink it on her own. I wonder if he was suggesting using the meltaway tablets?

LOL! I am the same way. Both these bottles were bought in the last 3 months so they are newer ones.
