Has anyone else have this happen to them?

Yes, this happens and is annoying. My kids are 12, 10, 4. When people r just trying to make conversations with kids they seem to ask what grade r u in, what's your fav subject, etc.
When they r trying to quiz your homeschooled kids they ask math facts or state capitals. If I'm around I answer for the kids something like "we prefer not to take un announced tests" or something like that... Or suggesting a more appropriate thing like "why don't u tell aunt jane what u made at co op this week" or "let's show grandma that cool volcano project you did yesterday", something like that.
The kids r getting good at saying "yep" and then changing the subject when asked " do u know what 5 X5 is

Those are great responses! I particularly like the kids response, that's great
