Re: My baby HATES tummy time!

My dd hated tummy time so I never made her do it. She's one and not crawling. I don't know if it's related to lack of tummy time. She's strong and walks and runs with a little help(hand holding) I don't think not being forced to do something she found distressing to be bad.

I didn't force tummy time either. Just do floor time and shell be fine. If you are worried about it, get an exercise ball and put her on her tummy on it. She will LOVE IT! It's good for digestion too. You'll get some good burps on that thing.

Re: My baby HATES tummy time!

I did tummy time for zero of my three kids. I reasoned that no baby needs "special exercises" for little legs to work ... it just happens ... so probably no baby needs special exercises for anything.

Two of my babes crawled and walked early, the other was within normal limits.

Now my 7 year old is a black belt in Taekwondo, my 5 year old does cartwheels and other tricks in gymnastics, and my 2 year old is a climbing wizard.

Point being, there were no short term or long term effects of skipping it. I decided now, in retrospect, that tummy time was just another excuse to try and sell us blankets with pillow attachments and mirrors. It's quite appalling really.

DS hate tummy time and he learned to roll and crawl just fine. He was a bit of a late roller (6 mos) but the pedi was never concerned.

I just wear in a wrap and call it tummy time. She's also recently started to like laying on my chest and looking around.

Re: My baby HATES tummy time!

I just assumed all babies hate tummy time! Great learning here from the PPs. I just kept things short & sweet & let baby grumble a bit.

Eh... DD rolled one way at 6 months and the other way at 6.5 months.

It's all within the realm of 'normal', I think.

Re: My baby HATES tummy time!

We didn't do tummy time with either of my girls. They were both late rollers (I think they just didn't want to roll), but they walked at 8 and 9 months and were running by 10 months. We wore them a lot, so I think that helped them develop some of those muscles.
