Grovia inserts - different types - help!

New to CD'ing and we are trying to standardize with all grovia hybrids and inserts. Question I have is it sounds like Grovia and Grobaby have like 100 different types of inserts (ok not a 100, but a lot) and I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to the differences? PUL, TPU, oh my!

There are four basic types: Organic, Stay Dry, Disposable, and prefolds.

The Organic cotton were made by both Grobaby and GroVia. Some of the GroBaby are not TPU backed. TPU backed is better because your shell stays cleaner longer. I also liked these better than the stay dry.

Stay dry are hemp topped with fleece, also have the TPU backing. These always bunched on me so I liked the organic better.

Never used the disposable.

Their prefolds don't snap in, but are really absorbent. The blue edge ones fit perfectly trifolded on the medium rise setting.

Thanks! I've heard "PUL" used as well. Is that an old version of TPU?

Both are waterproof fabric, I believe the difference is in the process used to make it??? I believe TPU is a little "softer" and more breathable than PUL. All Grovias use TPU.

Re: Grovia inserts - different types - help!

Cotton without any backing: GroBaby - these were made with organic cotton fleece (like a sweatshirt material)
Cotton with backing: GroVia (TPU helps keep shell drier) for the first production run or so these were made with the same cotton fleece as the GroBaby soakers were made, then at some point they switched to the IMO Certified Jersey Cotton, which is softer, and stretchier
Stay Dry: hemp/cotton with fleece top - only made as GroVia, so they all have TPU

I have had them all and find they absorb the same! My favorite diaper, so sad to not be using them with DS PLing ;-(

Just want to add that I agree that the organic cotton bunch less than stay dry BUT the stay dry are easier to clean poop off of and they dry much faster. They are also constructed to allow a booster to go inside instead of on top.

I thought I would like the organic inserts but I actually prefer the stay dry: hemp terry with fleece on top! Super absorbent and the fleece is great against the skin. I also like the bamboo prefolds, they are soooooo soft and absorbent. IMO GroVia is the best AI2 system out there, even my husband loves them! Especially for the price, they are well designed and great quality!

Thanks for the info - have a little bit of everything and I like the stay dry feeling, but haven't done a real side by side comparison to see which works better for the kiddo (he's a heavy peer).
