Re: Switched at birth?

I'm about to disown my son. He wakes up in our bed, looks at dad and says "Hi Daddy!" Then he looks at the dog and says "Hi Teey!" Then to the cat, "Hi Ank!" Then looks at me and says "Bamba!" (Bamba is the name of his favorite food.)

Did you hear the This American Life episode about the baby who really was switched at birth in the 50s? It made me cry. The mom knew almost immediately, but the father thought it would embarrass the doctor so they never said anything!

Re: Switched at birth?

Clearly, my child was switched at birth with a frat boy...she wants to stay up all night, eat junk food, watch TV all.the.time., and finds a great deal of humor in talking about boobs, pee, and poop. She sometimes asks to see my or DP's "chooch". She throws a fit when there's not another snack immediately at hand. She hates to bathe and says she like to be stinky. Oh, and farts are the funniest thing EVER! I took a frat boy home from the hospital

How much time passed before it was discovered you were switched?!

This reminds me of a Lifetime movie I saw forever ago.

Too embarrassed? That's crazy, and the difference between women then and now. I would've been hysterical and demanding my baby be returned and the imposter taken to her actual mother.

I love that you used the word "imposter" here, because I am 99% sure the newborn baby wasn't in on it

We have some question here about our baby, because we can't figure out how two night owls made a baby who likes to wake up at 5am happy as can be. If DS didn't look exactly like my husband I'd be suspicious.

You can listen to the story here.
http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radi...tched-at-birth

Maybe a spoiler below
.

.
.
They interviewed the family, the dad had passed away but I think the mom was still alive when the story was produced. Back when it happened women had "twilight sleep" births, and I think the mom hemorrhaged after birth and this doctor saved her life. So it was several days before the mom was well enough to be cogent. By that time the families had both accepted their babies, so it would have come out if they switched back. It was a very small town and the dad felt it would ruin the doctor if they told anyone. The mom still sounds bitter 40 years later, it's a very sad story.

Re: Switched at birth?

There was a big joke that my mom was switched at birth because she's really white and she's supposed to be 1/2 Mexican- she didn't look anything like her brothers. There was a Mexican looking boy born to a white family on the same day...it was a tiny town so everyone knew. I guess the only reason it's funny is because my mom looks like a white version of her mom and has a big butt like her dad so I'm pretty sure she belonged to them One of my sons has dark skin, eyes, and hair so maybe the Mexican is still somewhere in the family line. Genetics are a funny thing!
