My Mood:
digging up perennials

I've got this flowerbed that has suffered several years of neglect, and it's time to overhaul it. Some of the plants are past their prime and I don't much care whether they stick around, but some of them I'd like to keep. Most of them are flowering now or will be flowering soon. Am I going to commit planticide if I dig them up now and stick them in pots while I renovate the bed? Would it be better to wait until late summer, so they're potted while dormant? If it matters, the things I want to keep include columbine, salvia, achillea, centaurea, possibly some daisies, possibly some bee balm.
