I think I am regretting not having a home birth

I thought about a home birth with this baby since labor tends to go very easy for me. Then I listened to everyone about concerns and if something goes wrong and all of that and changed my mind and when to a doctor to do hospital births. I am starting to regret it. Not that my doctor is not nice but I keep having dreams about having this baby at home. I think I am going crazy.

Is it too late to find a midwife? I really don't want to go to the hospital, simply because I have no interest staying for 24-48 hours if all goes well, but the nearest is 30 minutes and I'm even more uncomfortable with the what ifs.

Have you looked into birth centers?

I don't think it is too late but I will have to look into it more.

We don not have birth centers in Wyoming.

I think if you really want it, look into it and go for it! I made a change this pregnancy too and it was a big leap for me but I'm so happy I did.

DDC - I think you should read some books written from the non-hospital perspective to get a clearer picture of the risks. There are many risks to hospital birth, but the medical staff are going to give you only the risks of home birth.

Some books to try:
Pushed
Essential Guide to Home Birth
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth
Baby Catcher

I am planning a HBAC and I had to really push my insurance company and the doctor/hospital group to get support. Whichever route you decide to take, it can't hurt to be educated in all the options and perspectives.

Not too late at all. I switched with dd2 about half way through to a MW.

It's not too late to switch providers! My MW has had mamas switch as late as 39 weeks, although she prefers to meet them earlier in order to build a good relationship. Check out your options, and do what you feel the most comfortable with.

Re: I think I am regretting not having a home birth

i switched with my 1st baby at 28 weeks. best decision ever. I went on to assist with hundreds of births since
i love homebirths for so many reasons but mainly cause my heart was called to have my own babies there.
some moms decide to stay at home last minute and thats ok too. you do what you feel is best not what others tell you is. you only know what you need and desire. you will remember the birth till you are 80 ...
