Re: Storage/Organization In A Small House

Oh and at least once a year I do a major purge and donate a ton of toys, clothes, and other crap. That helps a lot!

This is a great point. ITA. Shelves need to be deep enough to actually hold things.

Re: Storage/Organization In A Small House

We have decided to store all the linens that we need for each room primarily in the room they are used in. The exception is bath towels and guest linens. I have one drawer in our room for sheets and an extra blanket and the boys have their extras in the top of their closet. We have amazing closets in the hallway though and we store toys in half the closet and rotate out into a 2x4 cube shelf in their room. Everything my kids need is either in their room or in that closet. They do have a small table in the living room for breakfast and the occasional schoolwork (Montessori ie no homework). We live in a 50's house so although it is small it uses every inch of extra space so I am probably not much help.

If you buy a large cutting board (whole surface size) to set on top, you've just created countertop space that you can dual purpose for a cutting board too, and no need to store it out of the way when you aren't cutting.
