Re: Can someone explain drop side crib dangers to me? And should I just buy a new one

Ditto.....

I think it's a combo of user error and some were just made badly and created a gap for baby to fall down if they broke easily or came off a bit on the rails.

I had one (Jardin) for DS1 and 2, loved it. It was recalled for different reasons and got a new one, non dropside. I like it enough but dropside was easier, luckily LO is light or else it would be worse as it's really low.

FYI - he got his foot caught in the railings last night, cried....luckily I got him asap, but I forgot to put our breathable bumper up when we moved(few weeks ago), so that will be going up tonight. I felt so bad for him

I love drop side cribs. I'm tall, and even I find it hard to put a baby into the crib with the side all the way up.
Yes. Ours is like this too. This kind in not dangerous. It is the ones that are plastic for the runner that goes up and down. Ours also runs on a metal rod. I looked up its serial number and it has not been recalled.

We have a drop side as well, and it has been converted into a fixed side. It is incredibly simple to do- drill through the post into the top bar of the side that drops and insert a long screw. We only did it because the side was starting to feel a little loose, while it was secure it was fine.
