Supply Issues? Baby's not gaining well:(

My supply has tanked to a new all time low. I haven't been getting much sleep, because my older son was sick and now the baby is teething and she isn't sleeping either. I also has mastitis around Mother's Day, which lowered my supply also.

I've been taking 6 pills of fenugreek a day and drinking 3 cups of mothers milk tea. I also just got some replacement parts for my pump so I've started that up again. I don't respond we'll to the pump though. My boobs seem to drain very slowly and I just can get the milk out. I have to hand express a lot while pumping because the milk just won't come out. It's very frustrating.

I'm hypothyroid & have PCOS, but I take synthroid and metformin. Last month my thyroid levels were perfect, but I have Hashimotos.so it's possible that its gone wonky.

My supply seems to be worst in the evening, although today the trouble started this afternoon. Dd is has been bratty about her teeth coming in and has been refusing to nurse if I'm not very full so that doesn't help much either. She's 9 months old and just started eating a second meal a few weeks ago. She has Cheerios for breakfast and fruits and veggies for supper.

I'm seriously thinking about the motherlove more more plus special blend. Do you think it's safe to take goats rue if I already take metformin. Reglan isn't an option for me because I suffer from depression & anxiety. Thanks so much for your help.

Too bad you cannot take Reglan, it is what worked for me and I have hypothyroidism and PCOS. Maybe try Domperidone?

ETA - I have been on Reglan for 14 months and hhave anxiety and other issues, but it did not bother it.

I could. Is there a place to order it online that's safe? I was leaning towards trying the More Milk Plus Special Blend because its available to me locally, but I'm willing to try Domperidone. I'm not sure what my Ped will say though. Their lactation nurse has been pushing formula She thinks the baby is trying to self wean. I'm not ready to wean though and I know the baby isn't either because sometimes all she wants is mama for her "num num" time. Spending bucko bucks on special milk free/soy free formula is also not in budget. We do get Wic right now, but my husband is self employed and makes more money in the summer so we might be losing some of our benefits. I have some milk in the freezer that I can use while I'm trying to get my supply up.

I almost wonder if the problem is not with me, but the baby. I'm worried that she doesn't want to eat. I've taken her to the doctor many times for this and they just push more food and formula. She's on two meals a day, but no formula. Most of the time her wet diapers are okay. Not drenched like they used to be, but maybe twice a day I'm not impressed with a sort of wet diaper and she poops usually once a day.

I'm pumping right now and so far I have 1 oz from the left breast she just nursed from and 3 oz from the right side she last ate from 4 hours ago. She prefers the left breast and it has more milk. When she was nursing before I pumped she was gulping milk. I don't understand why I have milk now, but at the end of the day I'm really low. I wonder if I should save the milk for later or give it to her her now in her sippy. I really hate pumping. I just wish she would eat.

She has an upper lip lie, but the doctor said its not a concern because it is very loose and her lip can be flipped back fine. She also has gerd, but takes Prilosec and pepsid for this. She has been spitting up a little this week. But I cheated and had some graham crackers and they have soy in them so I won't be doing that again.

Re: Supply Issues:(

Undiagnosed food allergy can cause slow weight gain and refusal to nurse. If baby is dealing with GERD, it is likely there is still something in your diet that is bothering baby.

That said, being about to pump 4 oz in 1 pump session is substantial. Sounds like there's nothing wrong with your supply. Maybe something you eat in the morning is causing baby to be fussy in the evening?

Re: Supply Issues:(

4 ounces in a pumping session is really pretty good. And it's very typical that your supply will decrease as the day moves along - a typical mother produces the most in the morning, and the least in the evening before bed. I would agree with looking at your diet.

From my understanding... Everyone has lower milk in the evenings. It sucks and it's why babies cluster feed before bed.

But completely normal.

I wish I could get 4oz. Lol - I get less than half an ounce combined from both breasts. DS uses both breasts every session and eats almost hourly during the day, 2-3 hrs at night or if he falls asleep during the day. My guess is he eats often because I don't make much at a time. ::shrug::

I dunno... Doesn't really sound like supply issues to me.

I wonder what could be bothering her? I eat oatmeal with flaxseeds and a little bit of dark brown sugar and cinnamon every morning for breakfast. I've been eating that every morning since she was born. I used to be able to get 8 oz in the morning. My last pumping session I only got an ounce though. The baby is very cranky today so something is definitely upsetting her. I ate some beef last week. I wonder if that would still be causing her discomfort. I don't eat much corn anyway because it bothers me. I eat alot of fish, but does that really cause tummy troubles and low weight gain. I also eat nuts and eggs on a regular basis, but I did when she was younger too and she was gaining atleast 4 oz a week, more like 6-8oz a week for the first few months.

She is very hyper though and now that shes crawling as of last week and cruising this week shes always on the go. My nephew lost weight when he started crawling, but hes overweight so the doctor wasn't concerned.
