Ambien?

I've got 6 days til my due date. I'm extremely tired so my Dr gave me an rx for 5mg ambien. I've never taken any type of sleep aid before. It makes me nervous as I don't like medication to begin with. So...any experience? How quick does it work? Does it knock you out fully? I've got 2 kids at home and don't want to be passed out if one if them needs something. My hubby is a deep sleeper. We also Co sleep with our 3.5yo DS still....

So...worth taking it? I'm so so so tired. I was also diagnosed with prepartum depression today..so the sleep would do me good.

Re: Ambien?

I wouldn't sleep with your 3.5 yo in the bed and take the ambien. Can you sleep on the couch? I used to take it and I would literally not move in the middle of the night. It is THAT strong.

Re: Ambien?

It didn't hit me that hard....I've taken it for about a month or more while pregnant b/c I have pregnancy insomnia so bad I wasn't sleeping. 5mg is what they usually start with and that helps me get to sleep but not stay asleep. 10mg was too much - made it HARD to get up in the AM. I would give it a try. Have you tried Tylonel PM? If not, I personally would try that first...or even 50mg of Benadryl....warm milk...I'd try those things first.
