Odd cracking noise

I am currently sitting down, I don't have to be moving, and all of a sudden I hear my stomach making cracking noises. Sounds like bones breaking, or knuckles popping. What is that?

Re: Odd cracking noise

I have the same issue. My ob doesn't know. It's nothing bad. I have had it since the second trimester and i am now 38 weeks. I think it's just baby moving and it kind of makes the sound you hear underwater if someone moves fast. The first time it happened it scared me, i thought for sure my water broke. But it happens frequently and everything is going just fine.

There are two layers to the amniotic sac . The amnion and the chorion. Air can get trapped in between the layers and when baby moves it sounds just like knuckles popping. (same effect)
It is harmless and normal.
