My son will only nurse on one side

He's a great nurser, nurses frequently through the day and every 2-3 hours at night (with the occasional longer stretch) but he doesn't like my right breast. Even from the start. I know my left breast has a better letdown (that side'll spray) but my daughter never had a preference. Because he'd never drink from the right long it's started to dry up and now he doesn't want it at all. I always put him on that side first but he fusses and pops on and off until I switch him. My left breast has tons of milk but now one is bigger than the other.
How can I fix this? I should probably pump from that side but I don't have time. It's hard enough to just nurse him with my toddler climbing over me and daycare kids wanting attention. Would pumping just once a day help?

I had 3 do this. I just nursed on the one side. I pumped the other side with one child due to donating milk, but would not have if I wasn't.

It is truly a matter of what you want to do. You could pump the "low" size until you up the supply and he will go back to it, or you can just keep nursing from one side. Completely up to you. But 1 side is perfectly capable of providing all your baby needs.

First thing you could try - if you haven't already - is positions. See if it's just an angle preference. For instance, my friend had to do cross cradle right side, football hold left side. So baby was always 'looking' in the same direction.

DS has a preference. But for us it just means it feels wonky on the left side cause his latch is off cause he doesn't like turning his head that way.

My DS disliked the right side almost from day one. I eventually found that he would nurse well on that side in a lying down position, so I agree to try different positions. He still always preferred the left side, and I know my supply was less on the right side because of it. Wasn't an issue for us though. Good luck!

My 2nd had no preference.

#3 likes left sitting & craddle position but not like right unless side by side in bed otherwise e wiggles lots & on & off too unless I hold there....try different positions. Try pumping when u can...like another said if you ok with 1 side just fine too.

Could it be size of nipple or breast that he likes?

I have the same problem. DD prefers the left. I am lazy and don't pump but I do try to put her on the right to start off even if she is only on there for a minute max.

Re: My son will only nurse on one side

He used to nurse on the right side lying down in bed but now that there isn't much milk he doesn't like it anymore. He does have difficulty turning his head to the left, something I've been working on because he's distorting his skull shape always sleeping with his head to the right. I'll try to nurse him on the right lying down when I can. I don't mind just nursing from the one side but my boobs look so lopsided lol.

When he's relaxed, turn his head and the opposing shoulder to stretch out the neck.
