Stomach hurts during/after nursing?

I am 4 mo pp and EBF my second little girl. In the morning I wake her up to nurse her and I will also pump the other side at the same time before getting ready for work. This has been the routine for a month since she started sleeping longer stretches at night (yay).

Anyway, this past week my stomach has been starting to hurt after about 15 min of nursing her. To the point that I will prematurely detach her and maybe go use the bathroom. It was so bad yesterday that I felt nauseous and didn't go into work. I felt better by afternoon and spent the day nursing on demand.

Any thoughts on what is ailing me? I hope I am not preggo. Haven't taken a test but we also have been consistently using condoms. No PPAF yet, no other pains or issues and this only happens in the morning after our first nursing session.

Re: Stomach hurts during/after nursing?

Breastfeeding causes your stomach to release digestive acids which is why women often get hungry or very thirsty while nursing. You may have caused an ulcer (or just minor irritation) by not eating or drinking frequently enough. If that is the case, having a glass of water in the morning immediately before or during nursing may help.

Also, the stimulation from both pumping and nursing at the same time may be causing uterine cramping (the same as occurs immediately postpartum). To ease that, you can instead nurse your daughter first or pump the other side first, then switch. More time consuming but it may relieve the symptoms.
