is she done?? or what is going on??

DD is 11 months old.
A week ago, dd refused to nurse. I didn't panic, I just figured she was getting a tooth or something. She was up screaming at night.
Day 2--still no nursing, eating solids okay. Getting worried, up screaming again at night. Will take cow's milk in a sippy cup (but not formula).
Day 3--she nursed! yay! but was still fussy, and was up screaming at night again.
Day 4-7--no nursing, fussy during the day, up screaming at night. As in, I can pick her up and she still screams. She is whipping her head back and stiffening up when she screams.

I took her to the ped on day 5, he said there was nothing wrong that he could see (like ears or anything) and to just wait for it to pass. He said that she was probably just weaning (regarding the not nursing) and that cow's milk was fine to give her.

She has never acted like this before--even when waking several times a night, she would be happy if she was held and fed. Not now--she isn't sleeping. Something is bothering her. And randomly now her nose is running like a faucet (just started today).

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is she just done nursing? Is all the screaming related to the nursing at all? Is there anything I can or should do? She was down to 3x a day and then a few times during the night. Really I am at a loss here, any suggestions are welcome.

Personally I don't believe babies under 18 months self wean. http://kellymom.com/bf/normal/babyselfwean/

Do what feels right to you. If you want to be done, then follow this trend and don't keep offering. Otherwise offer, offer offer. Lots of skin to skin.

If I had to guess, it has nothing to do with nursing and is something else, ear infection, teeth, abdominal pain, etc.

If something happened, like if I got pg and my milk dried up, I wouldn't be upset that my 11 month quit nursing. However, I don't think it's ideal either. Personally, I would try to make it a bit longer. If you still want her to get the benefits of nursing, I'd starting offering the breast before solid foods, and I'd probably hide all the sippy cups for a while. If she's still insistent that she doesn't want to nurse, it's okay. But personally, I'd keep trying.

Re: is she done?? or what is going on??

Update:
I took her back to the dr on Tuesday b/c of all the screaming and not sleeping. NP suggested that the cow's milk could be irritating her, so I stopped milk and only gave water in a sippy cup. Still no nursing on Tuesday, but Wednesday night she finally nursed and appears to be back in it.

My older ds had trouble transitioning to milk when he turned 1, so this doesn't surprise me. My dd1 had no trouble, I did the same thing I was doing with dd2 which was giving a sippy cup of milk--but the difference is that dd1 only drank tiny bits of milk, while dd2 REALLY liked it and was drinking a lot more of it.

Hopefully we continue back on our way to peaceful nights.

She doesn't need cow milk if she's nursing.

Well, a little more back story, b/c I feel the need to defend why she was drinking whole milk in the first place--I had a Mirena put in on July 2, when she was 9 1/2 months old. I had it removed August 5. But, in the month that I had it in, my supply tanked. She was not getting enough milk, like she had cracked lips and wasn't having wet diapers. She wouldn't take formula, or frozen breastmilk, or water. She would only drink whole milk and green smoothies. And apparently she was really thirsty. So that is how I started giving it to her, as a supplement. Ped said it was fine at her age.
I'm only sharing these details at this point in case it helps someone else. I'm very thankful that she is nursing again. And now she will drink water from a sippy cup, so that is what I am giving her on the side.
