Re: Any Nurses or Dr's?? Please help!

I'm glad your taking her someplace else, you have a lot of patience, i would have been out of there the second time it didn't work. I think that surgeon is an idiot and needs to just say he doesn't know what the heck he's doing or talking about, what a jerk!

Not a RN/DR but do work in healthcare with surgeo (I am a medical assistant). Does she have any conditions like crohns/ulcerative colitis or surgeries before this? Sounds like she could have a fistula. I totally agree with getting a second opinion! I can't believe that original docs attitude, a CT is one of the first things my docs would have ordered to assess continued drainage. We do treat mostly adults though so maybe we have less concern regarding exposure.

Yeah, definitely doing the right thing in getting a second opinion, especially since the first doctor is just not listening.

No conditions that I am aware of and no prior surgeries other than tonsils and adenoids when she was 4. I will ask the new dr about a possible fistula. Hoping she will do the cat scan that I believe we need at this point!

RN, but totally out of my field. I can say that you should be going for a second opinion. It's not likely to heal on it's own if it hasn't yet already. She also needs to see a wound care specialist. You also need to figure out why this happened in the first place. That's a big question in my mind.

Why it happened, as in why it initially started to drain in the first place, correct? That's also a huge question in my mind as well. The surgeon said (after the "exploratory" surgery) that he was sure that small hole in the fascia was causing the issue. I no longer buy it. They've repaired it twice now and it hasn't fixed it. Another question I have is why does it keep getting infected? And also why won't it heal? I will bring up the wound care specialist to the new dr and see if she can recommend one. Making a list of questions and comments. Thank you

Eta: the current surgeon just keeps telling me it needs to heal on its own. We are 5 weeks post op and it still isn't healed obviously. When I bring this up, he says she needs to heal from the inside out and we need to give it more time. It's so frustrating because these are the same issues as last time, and you'd think given what happened last time, that he'd want to take a different/more pro-active approach this time........instead of this whole lets just keep an eye on it, it might heal on its own talk that he fed me last time.
