No call from the dr. today with results. They said today or tomorrow but I was hoping for today. The dr. is only in the office in the mornings though because she is in surgeries in the afternoon, so she probably didn't even see them until after her appointments today. Hoping to get a call tomorrow. Maybe I'll call around 11 if I don't hear anything before then. Praying with all I have that the catscan showed something......then at least we know what the problem is.

Re: Update Post #37~~Any Nurses or Dr's?? Please help!

Special needs mom and I have a kid that is incredibly difficult to establish IVs. If there is a next time make sure they know up front about how difficult it was last time. Once you let them know they will either do one of two things, get the most experienced nurse or directly call the IV team. I wish I could say that guarantees success but if her veins are incredibly bad there is no guarantee. My sons veins are tiny, roll and all the good veins are scared up from being accessed previously and even the top pediatric RN in our children's hospital has failed to establish access.

I'm so sorry it was traumatic for her. Usually if they are putting them under and know access is difficult they will gas them before doing IV access. My son has already had that done twice this year and both times were for CT contrast of the rectum and bowels. You can also try this product for next time if you like. I have read good reviews and actually own it but haven't had a chance to try it because all his IV starts have been prior to going under so they gassed him which IMO is better then the Buzzy-4-shots if it is an option.

Good luck to you and your dd. I agree on getting the 2nd opinion and I agree with the mom above's suggestions about the IV in the future. My son has a lot of complex medical problems and gets frequent IV's. I've found when they put hot packs on his arm right before, it's a huge help with getting the Iv started. I also let the nurses know that we usually have difficulty and request the hospital's IV team instead of letting the floor nurses try. Take care!

The floor nurse only tried one time. Then she covered her hands with heat packs (dd, for whatever reason, refused to let them do it anywhere but her hand) and called in the IV team. It was the IV team that tried the next 2 times and finally got it. I think if she would've let them do her forearm, it would've been a lot easier! I'll know in the future to let them know she is hard to start.
