Wahhh! - update in OP

Today sucks. DS1's school does a BBQ every year to kick off the school year. He's starting kindergarten this week and he's been so excited about the BBQ for weeks. Every time we drove past the school, he asked how many more days there were until the BBQ. Of course, today is the BBQ and DS2 has been puking all morning. Since DS2 now can't go to the BBQ and DH won't be home in time to either take DS1 or stay home with DS2, we have to skip it.

I feel awful for both of the kids. DS1 is so bummed to miss the BBQ. DS2 is miserable. Even better, DH forgot his phone at home today, so I have no way to get a hold of him and see if he might be able to get home early or have him pick anything up on his way home. If DS2 needs anything, I'm going to have to pack him up and take him to the store. And the tipper, my morning sickness is really not appreciating the constant stream of vomit happening today.

*Update*
While DS2 was napping, I found the number of one of DH's coworkers in his phone and he was able to pass DH a message to just come home instead of going to BBQ. As soon as he woke up, DS2 was running around, eating, and playing like normal. Now I have to decide what to do. Take the boys as planned, assume he's over whatever was bothering him, and go for the whole event. Or, wait for my friend or DH to get here to hang out with DS2, and DS1 and I can go alone. Or, I could send DH to the school with DS1. They were really looking forward to the BBQ because it was the only event this week DH would be able to attend because of work. What would you do?

Re: Wahhh!

that sucks

any chance of reaching your DH by calling his office or something?

maybe a friend would come and take DS1 to the BBQ?

Can another mama watch your kindergartner at the picnic? I'm so sorry. A bbq sounds like such a nice way to start off the year.

He's a garbage man and is out on a truck all day. I could call the office, but all they can do is pass a message along to him. Since its not dire, we'll just have to deal with it. We don't know anybody going to his same school.

ETA: we live to right near the border between two schools. We're on one side and most of our friends are on the other.

Call the school? See if they are willing to supervise for an hour or so? I'd be calling in desperation, I really would. Stuff like this is so important to my daughter.

The other kids have their own BBQ tonight at their school.

I promised him we'd have our own BBQ tonight if I can't find someone to come hang out with DS2 long enough for us to run to the school for at least a little while.

I just spoke to a friend of mine who is willing to come over after work to hang out with the sick one so I can take the other one over to the school. She can't get here until 6ish, so we'll miss about half of the event tonight (its 5-7), but at least we can go for a bit. I'm really hoping DH surprises us and shows up early today. Of course, he was planning to meet me at the school which will be interesting since we may or may not be there.

Please do not take your DS2! Just because he stopped puking does not mean he is completely over what he had or is not contagious.
