Is this name too close?

Dd is Abigail but we call her Abbie 90% of the time. Dh's grandmothers name is Ada (The A is said like the letter so it is A-duh) . Well she is about to pass away and DH was wanting to honor her if the new baby is a girl. He pointed out the name Adalyn. (Add-uh-lyn) I really like it and so does DH. The only hold back we have is that we would want to call her Addie. So are Addie and Abbie too close for siblings?

I don't think so, dd had twins in her class 2 years ago with those names and I always though it was cute.

I think it would be hard for me, I would get tongue tied, especially tired or not focused. If you are not clear I could see either both kids always responding or neither or if you have a family member that doesnt speak or hear clearly it could be tough.

If you just stuck with Adalyn, which is very pretty, I think it would be fine or the nickname Ada. Or if you don't think you or your husband would have any of the issues above, then go for it.

My boys are J names (not on purpose) and they aren't rhyming but it is hard. I am constantly calling them the wrong name. I don't regret naming them thier names but it is harder.

I love Ada as a nick name it will make it easier to keep their names straight.

I think it is "ok." I think it sounds really cutesy and I don't think that's a problem unless you don't like cutesy. I think kids only spend 15 to 20 years of their lives as siblings in the same house and the other 60 or so living their own separate lives. So what sounds cutesy as kids is t all that relevant to their adult lives.

Re: Is this name too close?

My kids names are completely different and one is a boy and one is a girl and I still mix them up sometimes. Your going to mix the names up sometimes regardless. I think its a beautiful name and I say go for it!

Re: Is this name too close?

I think it's a personal choice but they do sound super similar and I think it may end up confusing. I agree with the other posters and say either just use the full name Adalyn which I think is beautiful or use the nickname Ada.

I think Addie & Abby sound lovely together. There's a large age difference between them, so you might find Abby chooses to be called something other than Abby as she grows up, too.

GL, mama. We went with two girl names that start with Mak/MacK, and while I do mix them up sometimes, I don't regret we did that.
