Re: Is this name too close?

Now I have to say, this isn't a biased opinion because I love the name and have been pondering it for another baby girl (should we have another).
You should go for Adalyn if you and dh like it, just because you call your kids Abbie and Addie doesn't mean their friends will. Or like a PP said, that they will even like the nicknames when they are older. Personally, I would use Adalyn in full. Just as an example my DD is Anneliese, the short form is Analee which I also liked alot when DH and I chose her name but we never call her by the short form. Ever. Just my thoughts!

Good luck Mama!

What about using Ada for a middle name instead? That way you can really acknowledge the grandma - even telling her about your plans now - and your DH won't need to call his daughter Ada on a daily basis?

I really don't like the name Ada it just sounds strange with our last name. I wish we could tell her we plan on naming the baby after her but dh refuses to tell her about the pregnancy at all. I think he is trying to keep her from emotionally hurting more . She is also in and out of being lucid . She has mistaken DH for his grandfather or has just forgotten who he is . It's really hard on dh and I'm not pushing him to do anything.

Any other suggestions? We like old fashioned girly names with obvious nick names. Our children are Abigail Elizabeth (Abbie) and Jackson Hayes ( Jack)

Names dh has already vetoed
Josephine
Charlotte
Annabelle
Evangeline
Lillian
Madeline
Matilda

Re: Is this name too close?

My dd is Ada and we call her A-dee sometimes, but not Add-ee, if that makes sense. Then you would get a different beginning sound than Abbie. Before you explained Adalyn, I assumed it rhymed with Madelyn, so I would assume that your dd would have to correct people regularly. Could you use Adalyn as a middle?

Evelyn? Abbie and Evie would be adorable.

Re: Is this name too close?

My mother had 7 children. I have 3 children. She was always calling us by the wrong names. I call my children by the wrong names. Especially the last one. He was called by niece's and nephew's names as well as my older children's names as well for the first 6 months especially. I wouldn't let that deter you at all. I think it is cute. So say go for it.

If the similarity bothers you go by Ada instead of Addy.
