Re: Gah! Lunchmeat oops!

Ugh, I craved salami with my son and easily ate a pound a week from the deli (not even pre packaged stuff). I've also eaten my fair share of lunch meat this time too. No big deal. Half a sandwich won't hurt you!

You have a higher risk of listeria from fruit than meat. You'll be fine.

Re: Gah! Lunchmeat oops!

I've ate cold lunch meat for four pregnancies now, and all is well. I also drink raw milk. Those food guidelines are insane.

There have been a few big Listeria outbreaks and all of them that I recall were from fruits and veg. When I was pregnant last time it was cantaloupe. I'm really not that concerned with deli meat.

Re: Gah! Lunchmeat oops!

I do heat my lunch meat (twice actually), but I had a sandwich just like you're describing before I knew I was pregnant at about 5W. When I got my BFP I immediately thought "OMG! I ate that turkey sandwich yesterday!!!"

The only one I pay any attention to is no drinking, and even that I think is an overly crazy rule. One drink here or there is fine. It's totally normal to have a small glass of wine or beer w/ meals in other cultures. It's excessive drinking that will cause harm.
Good post. I never followed "the rules" either.

I didn't know you weren't supposed to have cold lunch meat until I was 2/3rds of the way through my first pregnancy and I was taking ham and cheese sandwiches to work nearly daily. Ate during my second pregnancy too. Most of the pregnancy nonos ae WAY overblown. The chances of getting listeria from ANYTHING is pretty remote.
