Unprocessed October

So, it's Unprocessed October, and I have started something of a food challenge for myself over at my blog, and I would love for people to join me or just help me with recipes. This month, I am trying to getting away from these four processed foods that we eat: bread, yogurt, mac and cheese, and almond milk. I want to make them at home myself, hopefully cheaper and better than the store bought alternative.

I would LOVE to see your fav recipes for making bread, yogurt, mac and cheese, and almost milk. On my blog, I have a list of the things that I want to make in the following months too, and I would love any feedback on those things as well.

I have a VitaMix, crockpot, and bread maker handing (this months recipes will probably be easier with those items!).

Thoughts? Recipes? What processed foods would you really like to kick?

Re: Unprocessed October

I love making homemade bread (100% wheat). I have a great recipe for that, as well as a mac & cheese one, on my blog (below).

My oven is not working so no bread for me. I plan on doing tortillas instead.

Re: Unprocessed October

This is the recipe I use for corn tortillas: http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/201...orn-tortillas/

and this is what I use for flour ones (I use half wheat/half white flour) http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Homemade-Flour-Tortillas

I like having homemade tortillas (because the store ones have so many unnecessary ingredients), I just wish they were a little less labor-intensive to make. I keep trying though, in an effort to get better at them!

I love cooking from scratch and figuring out how to make healthier versions of the food we like.

YES! The store bought ones are scary. I have only made them one time, and it was labor intensive, and I didn't have any leftovers... I would only make them again if I had leftovers.

We were going to do it, but I'm sort of in over my head.

Oh no! What is the hard part for you? Remember! You eat an elephant one bite at a time!

Re: Unprocessed October

Im trying! DIdnt have a great week so far but didnt have $ for a good meal plan. Going to hit the grocery store this weekend and try to plan out for the rest of the months meals. Really hoping to make some improvements! We are also trying to do mostly plant based at home.

I too need a good easy, I dont have a bread maker, bread recipe... for the inexperienced baker. Im a good cook, but not a baker.

I do corn tortillas. Masa, water, salt. I am no where as good as my aunts and grandmother. But they made tortillas every morning.

I have never made flour tortillas.
